Oregon: rich forested haven for frontier travelers
snow capped roofs dressed in redwood velvet
a place for healing after the hard journey.
outside the hall of heros
a wintery leaf twirls in the breeze
momentarily freed from the chains of her life
while a daylight owl pirouettes above.
Mt. Hood: a reflection of the rocky divide
beckoning from the western horizon
calling the restless from their parched cabins.
finding a loop around some aging mortal wreckage
lonely remnants of someone's landowner dreams
confusion of what was before and what is ahead
elk bones scattered by some midnight thief.
Columbia: home to animals, tribes and families
a trailer full of almost everything you could want
hoping that massive river can make a home.
crisp silence blankets the fresh snow
brought on icy winds from Alaska
or fallen from scaly peaks
for now the playground of blissful pups.
Portland: old west melting pot: miners, loggers, fishermen
the void behind hidden with beer and tears
the emptiness ahead hopefully to be filled.
at last a circle is completed
to weary from the travel
to enjoy the soothing sunset
she returns to the room with a view.
